My name is Zaki Röschard. I was born in Aleppo/Syria in 1988. I studied mechanical engineering at the University of Aleppo. During my studies, I specialized in materials science and was subsequently employed in research in sensor physics at UNI. At the same time, I was able to do my master’s degree at the Institute of Technology in Damascus. I had to leave my home country at the end of 2015 and I started a new life in Hamburg.
My hobbies are gaming, movies, climbing and table tennis.
How did you hear about KROENERT?
As a newcomer to Hamburg, I was looking for contacts and networks. I was lucky enough to be able to get a scholarship under the Schotstek programme. “Schotstek” is a maritime knot that connects two different strong ropes – it’s the association’s symbol. During an event, I had a great conversation with the management of KROENERT and was given the chance of an internship.
What attracted you to KROENERT?
The connection between mechanical engineering and materials science in KROENERT machines aroused my interest in this industry. The flexibility of the coating line at the Technology Centre enables new products to be tested on a daily basis using different coating methods. After selecting the exact settings for the process parameters and correctly adjusting the set-up to the properties of the materials being processed, you can manufacture the product successfully. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of applying my expertise to development in this industrial sector.
Tell us more about your career at KROENERT.
I started my career at KROENERT with my internship in the development department, where I was very well looked after. I was able to get to know the process and work on tasks in the field of radiation curing of solvent-free coating compounds. After the internship, it was clear to me that I wanted to build my professional future in this company, so I told the personnel department about it. Fortunately, this decision or idea was mutual, and I was taken on as a process engineer in the development department.
Working in the development department gives me lots of new and exciting experiences and insights that motivate me on a day-to-day basis. I’m always happy to take on new tasks that give me a positive look ahead into the future.
What are your goals as an employee in our development department?
My goals are first of all to gain a complete understanding of the process. I’m currently deepening my expertise in the area of sensor and measurement technology. Data science is also part of what I want to achieve in the future at KROENERT.
In your opinion, what makes a good engineer?
A good engineer is characterized by analytical thinking, the ability to work in a team and creativity.
What keeps you going on a day-to-day basis?
The hope for a world without hunger, war and poverty ...
What is your motto in life?
“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
What has been your most exciting project to date?
The development of a vibration measurement system.
How much freedom do you need at work?
I am given a lot of freedom for creative work.
The buzzwords digitalization and Industry 4.0 are on everyone’s lips, and they’re key issues at KROENERT, too. What was your first encounter with the digital age?
The Atari video game console.
How do you get to work in the morning – bike, car or train/local transport?
Summer: bicycle, winter: bicycle.
