News from the Kroenert/BMB/Drytec Technology Center
Since 2005 Kroenert has been able to run tests and trials at the Technology Center on two production scale lines. International and local customers, suppliers and raw material producers can test new or further-developed materials, or put application processes to trial under realistic conditions. In addition, all Kroenert line components can be closely inspected and, together with the four Center staff members, lines can be designed and optimized to meet customer specifications. The Center is also used for the in-house development of new technologies and the optimization of existing processes.

The speed of coating of 1610 m/min achieved at the international 2005 High Speed Symposium is uncommon under realistic conditions. However, a problem-free production speed of 1200 m/min is readily attainable with Kroenert lines – around the clock and with consistent product quality. This has been made possible by newly-developed or optimized application techniques, efficient drying and humidifying processes and laminating technology optimized for production – and tested in the Kroenert Technology Center.

One of the latest developments at Kroenert is a six-roller application technique for solvent-free silicone, which makes high-speed coating with consistently high coating quality and the lowest deviations in tolerances possible. Ever-changing market requirements, with tests on new products for tomorrow and beyond, are also accommodated in the Technology Center. Today too, high-precision coating at 2 m/min and in a material web width of 300 to 1300 mm is performed - without chatter marks.

Sleeve technology for rubber backing rollers and gravure rollers were also brought to production readiness in the Technology Center. As a result, shortened conversion times can be implemented. More on this topic can be read in the article “Time is Money” in this newsletter.

A separate trial station for a contact-free curtain coating system for plates has been built. In addition to the newly-available bead curtain technology for one and three layers, new possibilities are being explored and tested. The standard laminating speeds for 2 component solution-free laminators already have been exceeded. To date, 800m/min and more has been achieved.

The latest project is the design of a trial line for the processing of wax and hotmelt - the PAK 610. This represents the new generation of the successful PAK series for wax and hotmelt coating and the subsequent laminating. More on this topic in the „PAK 610“ article.
