Interview with Sven Burmeister

Please introduce yourself shortly!

I am 33 years of age, happily married, and my wife and I have a little daughter.

What have you done before joining KROENERT?

I began my professional career in Purchase at ARISTO and then worked for 3 years as strategic purchaser for passive components at LIEBHERR. Most recently I was Global Commodity Manager in the wind energy industry, responsible, amongst other things, for procuring complex cooling systems and brakes.

How did KROENERT get onto your radar?

I became aware of KROENERT via stepstone and then I noticed that the company is located in my immediate neighbourhood.

What did you find attractive about KROENERT?

First, I found it intriguing that it is an owner-managed company and that I was able to contribute with my experience. And I was also fascinated by the machines.

What are your aims as Commodity Manager?

As Commodity Manager for drive technology and electrical engineering, my aim is to procure the components necessary for production in the required quality at the right time.

What does that mean precisely?

It is about creating the best possible procurement strategy for the respective components for example by Best-Country-Sourcing (identification of the procurement markets best to optimise the total costs) and by implementing 2nd sources (multiple supplier strategy) to minimise costs and risks. Furthermore it is important to coordinate my work with that of the technical departments and with technical innovations.

In your opinion, what it is that makes a Commodity Manager?

A good Commodity Manager will continuously deal with his procurement markets and is thus able to react quickly to changes on the market. And in doing that it is important to develop relationships to the suppliers in a way that creates a reliable partnership for both sides. This is always done according to CQD (costs, quality, delivery time).

What drives you every day?

Permanently striving for optimum negotiation results as well as ensuring delivery on time are what drives me every day, together with the good teamwork with my colleagues. And I am also motivated by the fact that I can actively participate at KROENERT.

What is your life motto?

If they put stones in your path, it is your choice what to do with them: Build walls or bridges.
